Sexual display of house sparrows may begin as early as February and is followed by the building of nests in protected locations. Nests are placed from eight to thirty feet above the ground. The House Sparrow prefers to nest in manmade structures such as eaves or walls of buildings, street lights, and nest boxes instead of in natural nest sites such as holes in trees.
